Islamic Solidarity Games

The Islamic Solidarity Games is a multinational, multi-sport event involving elite athletes of the Organization of Islamic Cooperation. The  aim  of  the  Islamic  Solidarity  Sport  Federation  (ISSF)  is  to  strengthen  Islamic  solidarity  among youths,  promote  Islamic  identity  in  sports,  embed  principles  of  non-discrimination  in  accordance  with Islamic  teachings,  promote  cooperation  among  member  states  on  issues  that  relating  to  sports,  uniting positions  in  international  sporting  events, and  cooperating  with  international  sporting  bodies,  as  well  as preserving  sporting  principles  and  promoting  the  Olympic  movement  in  the  Muslim  world. The Islamic Solidarity Sports Federation (ISSF) and the Organization of the Islamic Conference (OIC) is the organization that is responsible for the direction and control of the Islamic Solidarity Games. The first Solidarity games was held in 2005 in Saudi Arabia.28 sports have been presented in the Islamic Solidarity Games.

 

3rd Islamic Solidarity Games – 2013 (Palembang, Indonesia)

 

The 3rd ISG were organized in the city of Palembang, Indonesia from 22 September to 01 October 2013. 2575 participants, representing 39 member countries took part in the Games. The Chef De Mission of Maldives contingent for the Games was Ahmed Thohir from Shooting Association of Maldives.

4th Islamic Solidarity Games – 2017 (Baku, Azerbaijan)

 

The 4th Islamic Solidarity Games was a multinational, multi-sport event that was held in Baku, Azerbaijan from 12 to 22 May 2017. 6000 athletes from the 56 members of the Islamic Solidarity Sports Federation participated in the Games. Athletes competed at 24 disciplines from 21 sports in the 4th edition of Islamic Solidarity Games. Some sports also included disabled sport events such as athletics and judo. The Chef De Mission of Maldives contingent for the Games was Mohamed Saeed from Carrom Association of Maldives and the Deputy Chef De Mission of the Games was Moomina Adam from Netball Association of Maldives.
