South Asian Games

The South Asian Games, a multi-sport event, is the regional Games of the Olympic Council of Asia. Since it was first hosted by Kathmandu, Nepal in the year 1984, except for few occasions the event is taking place every alternate year. This mega multi-national sports event is held among the athletes of the South Asian countries in various locations across the region. The event is joined by the eight South Asian countries namely Afghanistan, Bangladesh, Bhutan, India, Maldives, Nepal, Pakistan and Sri Lanka. The event is unique in itself as it promotes sports with a view to boost up the team spirit as well as an amiable relationship between the South Asian countries.  

11th South Asian Games - 2010 

The 2010 South Asian Games, officially the XI South Asian Games, took place from 29 January to 8 February 2010 in Dhaka, Bangladesh. Roughly 2000 athletes from eight countries competed at the games in 23 different sports. The Chef De Mission of Maldives contingent for the Games was Shahid Ahmed and the appointed Deputy Chef De Missions were Ahmed Sham and Ahmed Shahir.

12th South Asian Games - 2016 

12th South Asian Games was held in Northeast India (Guwahati & Shillong) from 5th February 2016 to 16-Feb-2016. It was the 1st ever gender equal South Asian Games with men and women participation in all the sports. Around 2600 athletes competed at 22 disciplines during the games. All SAARC nations namely Afghanistan, Bangladesh, Bhutan, India, Maldives, Nepal, Pakistan and Sri Lanka participated at the games. Athletes competed in 228 events from 23 Sports disciplines. 16 Sports Disciplines were held at Guwahati while 7 Sports Disciplines were held at Shillong. The Chef De Mission of Maldives contingent for the Games was Saeed Ali and the Deputy Chef De Mission was Muna Muneer from Volleyball Association of Maldives.

13th South Asian Games - 2019 

SAG 2019 was hosted by Nepal and games were played in Kathmandu and Pokhara from 1st to 10th December 2019. The 10 Days long Games witnessed the participation of 2,715 athletes from seven South Asian Countries including India, Nepal, Sri Lanka, Pakistan, Bangladesh, Maldives and Bhutan. The 2019 SAG featured 27 sports with Paragliding making it debut and Cricket returning after 8 years. Golf and Karate were the two sports added by the hosts as their choice. The Chef De Mission of Maldives contingent for the Games was Ibrahim Nahid from Maldives Basketball Association. The two appointed Deputy Chef De Missions for the games were Ismail Razeen from Maldives Pool Billiard Association and Aminath Nashida. Flagbearer at the opening ceremony of the Games was Hawwa Rashidha from Volleyball Association of Maldives.
