The Asian Beach Games is a multi-sports event held every two years among athletes representing 45 National Olympic Committees of Asia. The Games are regulated by the Olympic Council of Asia. The Asian Beach Games celebrate cooperation and unity despite diversities. The Asian Beach Games forge unity and friendship between their member nations by joining athletes, trainers, and officials together. The Games have been organized by the Olympic Council of Asia (OCA). The Games are described as the second largest Asian multi-sport event, after the Asian Games. In its history, six countries have hosted the Asian Beach Games. Forty-five nations have participated in the Games.
3rd Asian Beach Games - 2012
The 3rd Asian Beach Games took place in Haiyang city in Shandong province from June 16th to 22nd. Around 1,600 athletes from 45 member countries and regions of the Olympic Council of Asia participated in the Games. The Games consisted of 13 sports and 49 events including beach basketball, beach volleyball, beach Kabaddi, beach handball, beach cricket, beach Sepak Takraw, paragliding, windsurfing, rollerblading, rock-climbing and wakeboard. Of these rock-climbing and rollerblades were included as an Asian Beach Games event for the first time. Beach volleyball was the only Olympic sport, with the remaining 12 events being non-Olympic sports. The Chef De Mission of Maldives contingent for the Games was Moosa Nashid. Flagbearer at the opening ceremony of the Games was Aminath Shiura Abdul Bari from Maldives Basketball Association.
4th Asian Beach Games - 2014
4th Asian Beach Games 2014 to be held from 14-23 November 2014. Over 6,000 athletes and officials from 45 countries across Asia competed in 26 different sports over 169 events. The Chef De Mission of Maldives contingent for the Games was Ali Ashraf from Volleyball Association of Maldives. Flagbearer at the opening ceremony of the Games was Mohamed Zilal from Maldives Basketball Association.
5th Asian Beach Games - 2016
The fifth Asian Beach Games took place in Danang, Vietnam in 2016. Competition was held from September 24 to October 3, with 45 nations sending athletes to compete in the Games. Athletes competed in aquatics, athletics, basketball, football, handball, rowing and wrestling, as well as non-Olympic sports such as bodybuilding, ju-jitsu, kabaddi, kurash, muay thai, pencak silat, petanque, sambo, sepaktakraw, shuttle cock, vovinam and woodball. The Chef De Mission of Maldives contingent for the Games was Imad Ismail from Cricket Board of Maldives and the deputy Chef De Mission was Aminath Ali from Badminton Association of Maldives. Flagbearer at the opening ceremony of the Games was Aishath Shaffa from Volleyball Association of Maldives.
