The Indian Ocean Island Games is a quadrennial multi-sport event from Indian Ocean Island nations. The Games was created by the International Olympic Committee (IOC) in 1977 and currently gather the island nations and territories of Mauritius, Seychelles, Comoros, Madagascar, Mayotte, Réunion and the Maldives.
The objectives of the games are to contribute to regional cooperation through the development of sport in the region; build friendship and mutual understanding between the peoples of the islands of the Indian Ocean, in the spirit of Olympism; allow athletes to have, every four years, a competition whose interest and level are commensurate with the real sport of the region; and create a regional event whose repercussions will ensure the development of infrastructure of countries in the area. The games observe 19 disciplines which includes Athletics, Badminton, Basketball, Boxing, Cycling, Football, Handball, Judo, Karate, Pétanque, Rugby, Sailing, Swimming, Table Tennis, Taekwondo, Tennis, Volleyball, Weightlifting and Wrestling.
8th Indian Ocean Island Games – 2011 (Victoria/Seychelles)
8th Indian Ocean Island Games was held from October 5-14 August 2011 in Seychelles. The Chef De Mission of Maldives contingent for the Games was Moosa Nashid from Badminton Association of Maldives and Deputy Chef De Mission was Mohamed Hanim from Athletics Association of Maldives. Flagbearer at the opening ceremony of the Games was Mohamed Ajfan Rasheed from Badminton Association of Maldives. The 7 countries that competed at the Games are Comoros, Madagascar, Maldives, Mauritius, Mayotte, Réunion and Seychelles.

9th Indian Ocean Island Games was held from October 1-8 August 2015 in La Réunion. The Chef De Mission of Maldives contingent for the Games was Ibrahim Noorahdheen and the appointed Deputy Chef De Missions were Hussain Zinan, Ihusan Abdul Ghani and Aminath Haleem. Flagbearer at the opening ceremony of the Games was Hassan Saaid from Athletics Association of Maldives. In total over 2000 athletes competed at the Games from Madagascar, Maldives, Mauritius, Mayotte, Réunion and Seychelles.

10th Indian Ocean Island Games – 2019 (Mauritius)
10th Indian Ocean Island Games was held from 19-28 July 2019 in Mauritius. The Chef De Mission of Maldives contingent for the Games was Ibrahim Nahid and Deputy Chef De Mission were Ismail Razeen and Aminath Nashidha. Flagbearer at the opening ceremony of the Games was Ahmed Zabeer from Maldives Basketball Association. In total over 2000 athletes competed at the Games from Madagascar, Maldives, Mauritius, Mayotte, Réunion and Seychelles.
