Maldives Participates in Official Launch of the Southeast Asian Plus Youth Games (SEAPYG)

The Maldives Olympic Committee (MOC) was represented by Secretary General Thamooh Ahmed Saeed at the official launch of the Southeast Asian Plus Youth Games (SEAPYG) held in Metro Manila, Philippines, on 11 July 2026.

The launch marked a significant milestone in the development of youth sport across the Asian region, bringing together representatives from National Olympic Committees, sporting organisations and key stakeholders to unveil the vision for the inaugural Southeast Asian Plus Youth Games, which will be hosted by the Philippines in 2027.

Designed to strengthen youth sport and regional cooperation, SEAPYG will feature athletes aged 16 years and under from the eleven Southeast Asian nations, while also welcoming invited National Olympic Committees from across Asia under the innovative "Plus" concept. The Games are intended to provide promising young athletes with valuable international competition experience at an early stage of their sporting careers, while promoting friendship, cultural exchange and the Olympic values.

The initiative also aims to strengthen collaboration among National Olympic Committees, contribute to long-term athlete development and create an additional pathway for emerging athletes as they progress towards continental, regional and Olympic competition.

As one of the invited National Olympic Committees, the Maldives Olympic Committee is honoured to be part of this historic inaugural edition. Participation in the Games is expected to provide Maldivian young athletes with an important platform to gain international exposure, enhance their competitive experience and represent the nation on a broader regional stage.

The Maldives Olympic Committee remains committed to creating greater opportunities for young athletes through participation in international competitions and development programmes, supporting the growth of the next generation of Team Maldives athletes while strengthening the country's engagement within the Olympic Movement.
