Maldives Complete Men’s Table Tennis Team Stage at Aichi–Nagoya 2026
The Maldives completed its Group B fixtures in the men’s table tennis team event at the 20th Asian Games Aichi–Nagoya 2026, with Moosa Munsif Ahmed producing the team’s strongest performance in the final encounter against Uzbekistan.
Akhyaar Ahmed Khalid opened the tie for the Maldives against Shokhrukh Iskandarov. The Uzbek player maintained control throughout the contest, taking the three games 11–7, 11–7 and 11–3.
Mohamed Shaffaan Ismail then faced Diyorbek Dilshodov in the second encounter. Shaffaan pushed his opponent closely in the opening game before Dilshodov secured the match in straight games, 11–9, 11–3 and 11–7.
In the third encounter, Munsif faced Khurshid Akhmadov and came within two points of claiming a closely contested opening game, which ended 12–10 in Akhmadov’s favour. After conceding the second 11–6, Munsif responded strongly to win the third 13–11 and extend the contest to a fourth game. Akhmadov subsequently took the fourth 11–6, completing a 3–0 team victory for Uzbekistan and securing second place in Group B.
The team event was played at Sky Hall Toyota. With the group stage concluded, the Maldivian table tennis contingent will continue its Asian Games programme across the mixed doubles, men’s and women’s doubles, and singles events.
