Maldives Begin Asian Games Table Tennis Campaign Against Host Nation Japan
The Maldives men’s table tennis team commenced its campaign at the 20th Asian Games Aichi-Nagoya 2026 with a Group B encounter against host nation Japan.
Played at Toyota Sky Hall, the opening fixture concluded with Japan securing a 3–0 victory over the Maldives. Despite facing the world’s third-ranked team, the Maldivian players delivered a determined performance against their highly ranked opponents.
The Maldives was represented in the men’s team event by Moosa Munsif Ahmed, Mohamed Shaffan Ismail and emerging player Mohamed Halaf Rafiu.
Group B comprises the Maldives, Japan and Uzbekistan. The Maldivian team will return to action against Uzbekistan in its next group-stage fixture, scheduled for 08:30 hrs Maldives time.
