Child Safeguarding Sessions Continue in GA. Villingili

Child Safeguarding Sessions continued in GA. Villingili, bringing together sports counsellors from across Huvadhoo Atoll as part of the Hashiheyo Programme organised by the Ministry of Youth Empowerment, Sports and Fitness.

The sessions aim to strengthen participants’ understanding of child safeguarding in sport and equip them with the knowledge required to help create safe, respectful and supportive sporting environments for children.

During the sessions, participants were introduced to the Child Safeguarding Policy jointly developed by Advocating the Rights of Children (ARC) and the Maldives Olympic Committee (MOC). The policy provides a framework for preventing harm and ensuring that safeguarding concerns within sporting environments are addressed appropriately.

Participants also explored their individual and collective roles in identifying, reporting and responding to safeguarding concerns. Particular emphasis was placed on understanding the responsibility of sports counsellors to prioritise the safety and well-being of children participating in sporting activities.

The sessions form part of ongoing efforts to strengthen safeguarding practices at the community level and promote a culture in which every child can participate in sport in a safe and positive environment.
