Maldives Conclude Badminton Competition at Aichi–Nagoya 2026
The Maldives concluded its badminton competition at the 20th Asian Games Aichi–Nagoya 2026 after three national players contested the second round of the singles events at the Ichinomiya City Municipal Gymnasium in Aichi.
In the men’s singles, Nibal Ahmed faced Sri Lanka’s Viren Nettasinghe. The Sri Lankan controlled the match from the opening exchanges and advanced with a straight-games victory, taking the two games 21–4 and 21–6.
Fathimath Nabaaha Abdul Razzaq represented the Maldives in the women’s singles against Singapore’s Yeo Jia Min. Nabaaha produced a stronger challenge in the second game, but her Singaporean opponent maintained the advantage to complete a 21–9, 21–13 victory.
Aminath Nabeeha Abdul Razzaq, who had progressed to the second round following a commanding victory over Mongolia’s Enkhlen Selmeg-Od, met Hong Kong, China’s Lo Sin Yan Happy. Lo secured the match in straight games with scores of 21–2 and 21–12.
These results brought the Maldives’ participation in the badminton competition at Aichi–Nagoya 2026 to a close. The national badminton team is scheduled to return to the Maldives on 5 October.
