Asian Beach Games 2026: Maldives Swimmers Compete in 5km Open Water Event
Maldives’ swimmers Ayana Arifa, Fathimath Anjal Fayaz, Shayam Ibrahim Hussain, and Daniel Ameen Faisal competed in the 5km open water swimming event at the 6th Asian Beach Games in Sanya, China.
The women’s heats were held earlier, while the men’s swimmers competed in today’s races, marking another key outing for the Maldivian team in open water swimming.
Following the event, the athletes highlighted the significance of competing in a 5km open water race at an international level. They noted that gaining such experience in a different environment is an important step in their development, especially when racing alongside some of Asia’s top athletes.
The swimmers also emphasized that participating in an event of this scale is a valuable opportunity that contributes to their growth and future performance.
Maldives’ open water swimming team will next compete in the mixed relay event (4 x 1.5km), scheduled for tomorrow.
