Maldives Conclude Historic Mixed Doubles Run in Round of 16
The Maldives’ first-ever appearance in the Asian Games table tennis mixed doubles round of 16 saw Moosa Munsif Ahmed and Aishath Rafaa Nazim face India’s Manush Shah and Diya Chitale at Aichi–Nagoya 2026.
India established control by taking the opening game 11–0. Munsif and Rafaa responded with a more settled performance in the second and third games, but the Indian pair maintained their advantage to secure them 11–7 and 11–6, completing a 3–0 victory.
The Maldivian pair had earned their place in the round of 16 earlier in the day with a remarkable comeback against Mongolia. After conceding the opening two games, Munsif and Rafaa won three consecutive games 11–9 to secure a 3–2 victory.
Their progression marked the first time a Maldivian mixed doubles pair had reached the round of 16 in table tennis at the Asian Games.
