Maldives Conclude Swimming Competition with National Record by Looth
The Maldives concluded its swimming competition at the 20th Asian Games Aichi–Nagoya 2026 with a third national record, as Looth Mohamed Hussain established a new benchmark in the men’s 50-metre breaststroke.
Competing at the Tokyo Aquatics Centre, Looth completed the race in 30.98 seconds and finished seventh in a heat featuring 10 swimmers. The performance lowered his previous national record by 0.56 seconds.
Looth had established the former mark of 31.54 seconds at the 23rd Commonwealth Games earlier this year. His latest performance brought the time below 31 seconds and further improved the national standard in the event.
The Maldives swimming team established three national records during Aichi–Nagoya 2026. In addition to Looth’s performance, Mohamed Rihaan Shihaam lowered the men’s 400-metre individual medley record to 5:06.92, while Meral Ain Latheef set a new women’s 100-metre breaststroke record of 1:22.06.
With the swimming events now concluded for the Maldives, the team is scheduled to return home tomorrow.
