Maldives Conclude Shooting Competition with Mixed Team National Record
The Maldives concluded its shooting competition at the 20th Asian Games Aichi–Nagoya 2026 with another national record, as Ziyan Ziyau and Mariyam Eshal Misbah established a new benchmark in the 10-metre air pistol mixed team event.
Competing at the Aichi Prefectural General Shooting Gallery, the Maldivian pair recorded a combined score of 557 points. Their performance improved the previous national record by nine points.
The former mark of 548 points had been held by Ziyan and Riyusha Mohamed since the 13th South Asian Games, held in Nepal in 2019.
The mixed team brought together two of the Maldives’ leading performers in the air pistol competition. Ziyan had recorded the highest score among the Maldivian shooters in the men’s individual event, while Eshal had already established a new national record in the women’s 10-metre air pistol at these Games.
The record provided a strong conclusion to the Maldives shooting team’s participation at Aichi–Nagoya 2026, during which the team established several new national marks across the rifle and pistol events.
