Maldives’ Yasin Finishes Second in Asian Games Shortboard Heat
The Maldives opened its surfing competition at the 20th Asian Games Aichi–Nagoya 2026 with Yasin Ahmed Nashid securing second place in his first-round men’s shortboard heat.
All four members of the Maldivian surfing team were in action at Tahara Long Beach in Aichi. Competing in Heat 1 against surfers from China and Thailand, Yasin recorded a total score of 8.50 points to finish second in the three-athlete field.
Kayaan Abdulla Arif represented the Maldives in Heat 6, where he registered 5.43 points. His heat featured two Japanese surfers who compete on the World Surf League Championship Tour, placing the Maldivian athlete alongside competitors from the highest level of international professional surfing.
In the women’s shortboard competition, Aminath Thaanis Shiran scored 1.43 points in Heat 4, while Mariyam Raahil Naseem recorded 1.33 points in Heat 6.
The four Maldivian surfers are scheduled to return to the water for the second round of the shortboard competition on 27 September.
