6th Asian Indoor and Martial Arts Games Cancelled Due to Unmet Requirements

The 6th Asian Indoor and Martial Arts Games (AIMAG), initially scheduled for November 21-30, 2024, in Bangkok and Chonburi, Thailand, have been officially canceled. The decision was made by the Olympic Council of Asia (OCA) after the Thai Organizing Committee failed to meet several key requirements outlined in the Host City Contract, even after multiple extensions. Factors contributing to the cancellation include budget shortfalls, inadequate infrastructure, and unmet organizational criteria.

Originally planned for 2021, the event had been postponed multiple times due to the COVID-19 pandemic and political changes in Thailand. Despite efforts from the OCA and assurances from the Thai organizers earlier this year, the necessary conditions were not fulfilled by the final deadline on August 19, 2024. As a result, the OCA decided to cancel the games in the interest of athletes and stakeholders.

The next edition of AIMAG will now take place in Riyadh, Saudi Arabia, though exact dates are yet to be confirmed. The OCA expressed regret for the inconvenience caused to athletes and reassured that support would be provided through their respective National Olympic Committees.
