MOC Leadership Attends ISSA General Assembly in Riyadh
Maldives Olympic Committee President Mr. Mohamed Abdul Sattar and Secretary General Mr. Thamooh Ahmed Saeed took part in the Islamic Solidarity Sports Association (ISSA) General Assembly held in Riyadh, joining representatives from member nations to discuss key developments and future directions within the Islamic sporting community.
Their participation provided an opportunity for the MOC leadership to engage in meaningful dialogue on governance, sport development, and international collaboration. These exchanges play an important role in strengthening the Maldives’ presence within regional sports networks and in identifying opportunities that can support the growth of athletes and national sports programmes.
A major highlight of the General Assembly was the announcement of the host nation for the next edition of the Islamic Solidarity Games. Malaysia was officially awarded the hosting rights for the 2029 Games, following a competitive bid process that included proposals from Iran and Uzbekistan. The decision marks a significant milestone for the Islamic Solidarity Sports Association and sets the stage for the continued expansion of the Games.
