Hangzhou Asian Games 2022 postponed and Shantou Asian Youth Games 2021 cancelled.
In light of the pandemic situation globally, the Chinese Olympic Committee (COC) and the Hangzhou Asian Games Organising Committee (HAGOC), following discussions with the Olympic Council of Asia (OCA) Executive Board (EB) decides to postpone the 19th Asian Games, which was scheduled for 10 to 25 September 2022, to be held in Hangzhou, China. The new dates of the Games will be agreed between the OCA, the COC and the HAGOC and announced in the near future.
Additionally, the OCA EB also studied the situation of the 3rd Asian Youth Games scheduled to be held in Shantou, China from 20 to 28 December 2022. It was decided that as the Asian Youth Games had already been postponed once, the Asian Youth Games Shantou 2021 will be cancelled. The next Asian Youth Games will therefore be held in 2025 in Tashkent, Uzbekistan.
