The 6th Asian Beach Games officially commenced in Sanya, China, with a vibrant and colourful Opening Ceremony.

The ceremony was held at Seaside Yasha Park, where Maldives was proudly represented in the athletes’ parade by a delegation of 27 athletes along with team officials. The national flag was carried by Ahnaa Nizaar and Beach Handball team captain Shamnooz Mohamed Naeem.

The Opening Ceremony featured a range of cultural performances showcasing Chinese heritage, along with visually striking artistic displays and entertainment segments.

More than 2,500 athletes are competing across various sports at this edition of the Games, with events already underway for participating nations, including the Maldives.

Maldives is competing in four sports at the Games: Beach Handball, Beach Athletics, Beach Volleyball, and Open Water Swimming.

Maldives Olympic Committee President Mohamed Abdul Sattar, Sports Commissioner Mohamed Tholal, Secretary General Thamooh Ahmed Saeed, along with other senior MOC officials, attended the Opening Ceremony.
