MOC President Attends OCA General Assembly in New Delhi for Key Elections
The 44th Olympic Council of Asia (OCA) General Assembly took place on September 8, 2024, at the Bharat Mandapam Convention Centre in New Delhi, India. MOC President Mohamed Abdul Sattar represented the Maldives at this important event, where elections were held for key leadership positions, including the OCA President and Vice Presidents for the five zones: East Asia, Southeast Asia, South Asia, Central Asia, and West Asia.
The assembly marked a historic moment as Raja Randhir Singh, a former Olympic shooter and seasoned sports administrator, was officially announced as the first Indian president of the OCA. Singh had been serving as the Acting President since 2021 and was the sole candidate for the position. The event also saw participation from leaders of all 45 National Olympic Committees in Asia, highlighting the significance of collaboration in promoting sports across the continent.
In addition to the elections, the assembly included discussions on shaping the future of Olympic sports in Asia under the new leadership. The elections were conducted via a secret ballot to ensure fairness and transparency
