Maldives Complete Women’s Doubles Programme Against South Korea
The Maldives concluded its women’s table tennis doubles programme at the 20th Asian Games Aichi–Nagoya 2026, with Aishath Alsa Nafiz and Mishka Mohamed Ibrahim facing South Korea in their third fixture of the event.
Competing at Sky Hall Toyota, the Maldivian pair came up against Shin Yu-bin and Joo Cheon-hui. The South Korean partnership featured considerable international experience, with Shin having won an Olympic bronze medal in mixed doubles at Paris 2024 and subsequently becoming the first Korean woman to reach the medal stage of the ITTF Women’s World Cup in 2026.
The Korean pair established control in the opening game and secured it 11–4. Maintaining their tempo and consistency, Shin and Joo extended their advantage by taking the second game 11–2.
Alsa and Mishka continued to contest the match in the third game, but the South Koreans retained the initiative and closed it out 11–3, completing a 3–0 victory.
The result brought the Maldives’ participation in the women’s doubles event to a close. Attention will now turn to the men’s doubles and women’s singles, where Aishath Rafaa Nazim will compete in the second round after earning a 4–2 comeback victory over Bangladesh’s Nawrin Mahi in her opening match.
