Appointment of flag bearers for Team Maldives at the Opening Ceremony of the 5th Islamic Solidarity Games.

Aishath Himna Hassan a promising, raising star on track, national sprinter and Ismail Vildan, National Basketball player, who has been in sport administration from the day he started practicing sports, have been chosen to be the dual flag bearers for Team Maldives at the Opening Ceremony of the 5th Islamic Solidarity Games. The small ceremony held at the athletes village at Konya, Türkiye was attended by Honorable Minister of Youth, Sports and Community Empowerment Ahmed Mahloof along with Executive Director, Ibrahim Labaan Shareef who were accompanied by MOC President and Secretary General and the Chef de Mission Aishath Shifana Wajeeh. At the ceremony Minister congratulated all athletes and wished them the best for the Games ahead. He thanked MOC and the Chef de Mission for the work that has been put into all the preparations. Adding to what Honarable Minister said, MOC President commended on the efforts of the athletes for striving to give their best regardless of the condition they are faced with. Similarly, CdM Shifana Wajeeh also highlighted about the progress Team Maldives was making despite the challenges being posed at the game. She urged the athletes to give their best and assured that MOC will do its best to make the whole process easy for the team Maldives delegation. The opening ceremony hosted at the Konya Metropolitan Municipality Stadium will take place tonight 9 August 2022, in the presence of the Turkish President Recep Tayyip Erdoğan, as well as other dignitaries. 51 Athletes and officials from team Maldives are expected to take part in the parade of nations during the opening ceremony.
