Closing ceremony of the 5th Islamic Solidarity Games.
The closing ceremony of the 5th Islamic Solidarity Games, hosted by Konya from 9-18 August with the participation of 4,200 athletes from 56 countries, was held last night on August 18 at the Selçuk University Stadium. The ceremony started with the hoisting of the Turkish flag accompanied by the National Anthem. Later, the athletes of the countries participating in the games joined the parade.
Athletes from Swimming, athletics, 3x3 basketball and table tennis joined the parade, where the Maldives flag was carried by National Swimmer Aishath Ulya Shaig.
July and August 2022 saw major two competitions, one being the XXII Commonwealth Games and the other being the 5th Islamic Solidarity Games. National athletes from 6 sports competed in these games, including Athletics, badminton, beach volley, 3x3 basketball, table tennis and athletics. All these sports were given equal opportunity to carry the nation’s flag during the opening and closing ceremony.
While this marked the end of international competitions scheduled for 2022, the year 2023 is expected to hold major 05 competitions, including the Asian Games, South Asian Games, Asian Indoor Martial Arts Games, Indian Ocean Island games and Asian Beach Games and ANOC Beach Games.
