Maldives Olympic Committee Celebrates Olympic Day 2026
The Maldives Olympic Committee (MOC) celebrated Olympic Day 2026 on 27 June 2026 at Henveiru Grounds under this year's global Olympic Day campaign, "Let's Move – You Can Do This." The event brought together athletes, coaches, sports academies, families and members of the public to celebrate the power of sport in promoting healthier lifestyles, friendship and community participation.
The event commenced at 16:00 hrs with welcoming remarks by the President of the Maldives Olympic Committee, Mr. Mohamed Abdul Sattar, who encouraged every Maldivian to embrace an active lifestyle regardless of age or ability. Echoing this year's Olympic Day theme, he reminded participants that movement is for everyone and encouraged the nation to "move a little more, support one another, and make physical activity part of everyday life." Concluding his address, he shared the campaign's message: "Let's Move. You Can Do This. Maldives Moves Together."
The President's remarks were followed by the official Olympic Day message from IOC President Kirsty Coventry, delivered through a recorded audio message. Athletes representing the participating National Sports Associations then proudly carried the IOC Flag, after which participants had the opportunity to walk with the Olympic Torches from the past three editions of the Olympic Games, creating a memorable experience for children and families attending the celebration.
Throughout the afternoon, participants enjoyed a wide range of interactive sports activities and demonstrations conducted by 12 National Sports Associations. Activities were organised by the Athletics Association of Maldives, Badminton Association of Maldives, Bodybuilding Association of Maldives, Carrom Association of Maldives, Cricket Board of Maldives, Football Association of Maldives, Handball Maldives, Maldives Chess Association, Shooting Association of Maldives, Table Tennis Association of Maldives, Volleyball Association of Maldives and Maldives Surfing Association, allowing participants of all ages to discover new sports and experience the joy of movement.
In line with the International Olympic Committee's "Let's Move – You Can Do This" campaign, Olympic Day 2026 encouraged people of all ages to take the first step towards a more active lifestyle. Through sport, play and shared experiences, the event reinforced the message that physical activity is for everyone and that every step towards a healthier future matters.
The Maldives Olympic Committee extends its sincere appreciation to all National Sports Associations, volunteers, partners, sponsors and participants whose dedication and support contributed to the successful celebration of Olympic Day 2026 and to promoting the Olympic values of Excellence, Friendship and Respect across the Maldives.
