Maldives Olympic Committee Elects Ahmed Munthaqim as New Vice President in Extraordinary General Assembly
The Maldives Olympic Committee (MOC) convened its Extraordinary General Assembly on Tuesday, June 25, 2024, at the Social Center Haruge to elect a new Vice President. The position had remained vacant since late March 2024, prompting this by-election.
The assembly, which commenced at 9:00 PM, was attended by the Executive Committee of the MOC, representatives from 15 out of 16 member sport associations, and observers from the National Sports Council and the office of the Commissioner of Sports, the meeting proceeded smoothly.
Following the announcement of the opening of candidacy, the MOC received one application for the Vice President position. With no objections raised by the members, the Electoral Committee confirmed Ahmed Munthaqim as the newly elected Vice President during the Assembly.
During the meeting, a moment of silence was observed following the passing of Mohamed Arif (Bakaa), an iconic midfielder and former captain of the Maldives national football team, who passed away earlier in the afternoon. Mohamed Arif’s contributions to Maldivian football have left an indelible mark on the sport.
The meeting concluded with the national anthem, symbolising the end of a seamless and orderly election process in accordance with the MOC’s Statutes. The MOC eagerly anticipates the contributions of Vice President Ahmed Munthaqim towards advancing sports development in the Maldives.
