Meeting with Minister of Education Dr. Aishath Ali, Minister of State for Education Fathimath Naseer and Deputy Minister of Education Mohamed Ihsan

MOC’s Secretary General Ahmed Marzooq and Treasurer Hussain Rasheed met with Minister of Education Dr. Aishath Ali, Minister of State for Education Fathimath Naseer and Deputy Minister of Education Mohamed Ihsan to discuss about the initiative MOC has begun as the Athlete Scholarships. The meeting emphasized on the importance of reducing the huge gender gap when awarding the athlete scholarships. To address this issue Dr. Aishath Ali, informed that 2 different regions will be assigned by the Ministry of Education. These two regions will be developed in which the scholarship holders will be equipped with the requisite facilities. In addition to this, the meeting also underlined the issue of the high fees charged by the private entities which poses an obstacle when it comes to seeking the opportunities in the field of sports. As such, it was proposed to make the private entities and National Sports Associations more responsible, by necessitating them to award scholarships to those athletes who don’t have a fair access to such opportunities. Before concluding the meeting, Secretary General proposed how Olympic Value Education Program (OVEP) could be integrated into the existing education system. OVEP, which is a practical set of learning resources, uses Olympic sport traditions and positive sporting values as the context for teaching life skills, values, and life-long participation in sport for a healthy lifestyle.
