The Asian Games Fun Run 2025 officially commenced today in K. Huraa, marking the start of two days of activities organised as part of continent-wide celebrations leading up to the 20th Asian Games in Aichi-Nagoya, Japan, in 2026.

A press conference was held this evening to launch the event, with Thamooh Ahmed Saeed, Secretary General of the Maldives Olympic Committee, Wissam Trkmani, Director of Development & International Relations of the Olympic Council of Asia (OCA), Jeans Zhou Jian, OCA Director of Media & Broadcast, and Fumihiko Kanaizuka, Executive Director of PR and Media of the Aichi-Nagoya Asian Games Organising Committee (AINAGOC) addressing the media. The speakers outlined the objectives of the Fun Run and highlighted its role in generating excitement across Asia for the upcoming Games.

In his remarks, Secretary General Thamooh Ahmed Saeed expressed appreciation to the K. Huraa Council and island administrative bodies for their support in hosting the event. He emphasised the importance of community participation and youth engagement in promoting the values of the Asian Games.

Representatives from the OCA underlined the significance of the Aichi-Nagoya 2026 Asian Games, stressing unity, sportsmanship, and regional cooperation. They also acknowledged the Maldives Olympic Committee for its commitment to advancing Asian sports initiatives through events such as the Fun Run.

In addition to the community run, the K. Huraa programme features a Youth Reporters Programme and an Art Competition, designed to inspire creativity, encourage journalistic interest, and raise awareness of the Asian Games among young participants. These events were opened to the schools across the whole Maldives, these events were held in collaboration with the Ministry of Education.

The Asian Games Fun Run is both a celebration of sport and a platform to unite communities across Asia in anticipation of the continent’s largest multi-sport event.
